A College Prep Career Academy for the Media Arts Grades 8-12 – High School for Media and Recording Arts
There are many definitions of career academy and many implementations across the state and throughout the nation. The High School for Media and Recording is an elite academy for students that are on a college prep track, and have artistic endeavors that they would like to develop in the areas of music technology, film production, interactive media, and animations. All students must be on task in order to gain access to the artistic programs and all students must maintain high standards in both the core curriculum as well as their respective arts program.
A career academy merges a seamless education option in conjunction with higher education and/or workforce development. The High School for Media and Recording Arts curriculum is unlike any other prep school in the nation. The design is to encourage students to attend SCAD, Georgia Tech, Southern Polytechnic Institute or one of the many other national accredited media technology programs.
The High School for Media and Recording Arts is tuition-free and will open in July 2010 pending the State of Georgia Charter Commission. Student will be enrolled in an open lottery. Eligible students must live in the state of Georgia, and must have access to public transportation within the city of Atlanta. The school will be located within the City of Atlanta. Interested students are encouraged to apply online. Online applicants will automatically be included in the lottery this coming spring.
Eligible students for the 2010 lottery are those who are currently in 7th or 8th grade in any metro area school district. Unlike magnet schools there are no enrollment requirements for our school. The High School of Media and Recording Arts is a school of choice, parents and students should consider the fact that this program is an extremely rigorous and that includes collegiate level courses, year round schooling, and weekend courses. Students must be able to pass the college level requirements in order to gain access to dual-enrollment options.
This advance program is designed for students who have an interest in the media arts and, are at grade level and are willing to follow a rigorous curriculum in order to obtain the best internships, studio time and the many internal and external incentives that the school will offer.
