breathing space in greater atlanta is the best thing the metro area has to offer.  for me, the atlanta market is not too big, not too small.

plus, i think there is something more than the distance between people or human-made structures that is comfortable here. do you know what i mean?

do you feel that, for the most part, it's easy for folks in the area to accept new people and new ideas?

sure, an elder neighbor, c.d. lucas, once told me, a girl born in milwaukee, that, "all good yankees are in the national cemetery." he said it with a smile and it was funny.

c.d. lived a full life before passing a couple of years ago. he was one of the best storytellers that i've had the honor to know. c.d. lucas taught me quite a bit about marietta government and how things work here as well as an historical order of life in south georgia where he was raised.

the relationship c.d. and i enjoyed is one example of the nurturing feeling that i get when inhaling and exhaling here. much more than miles separated our backgrounds, but, we shared a street and a loving friendship.

i believe the generalized openness for different or new stuff in greater atlanta is fueled from decades of persons from everywhere on the planet migrating HERE and mixing with the local southern grace and stubborn independence.

please, parkland advocates, take note of the value of our 'just right' density of living. i've read statements that refer to- the amount of park space as a percentage of city size- as a measurement of quality of life and that's not what makes for a healthy community.

it is our breathing space that allows us comfort zones, eye contact and person to person connections. it is our relaxed state that fosters acceptance of NEW.
